I don’t know about you but when I walk into the bathroom and see that dad has put up an undersized roll or mom has bought an oversized one for her giant manhands, it really bothers me.

My first round-number estimate of the width of a standard toilet paper roll is 1.5 inches. In order to come up with this estimate, I had to do some serious research. It turns out that toilet paper rolls are not standard across the board. They can vary in length and width depending on the company and they range from as small as 3 inches wide to as large as 2.5 inches wide.

I wanted to find out how wide an actual toilet paper roll might be, so I came up with a plan. First, I went out and bought the widest toilet paper rolls at my local supermarket. They turned out to be 11 inches in circumference. Next, I measured the circumference of the toilet paper rolls with a string and then wrapped it around my waist (to approximate the size of someone’s waste). This turned out to be about 36 inches in circumference.

As we all know, toilet paper rolls come in different sizes. You could try looking at your own toilet paper roll and then compare it with others that you find. But even that might not work because some people have bigger or smaller hands than others.
